About Us
About Us

At Gordon Arata Montgomery Barnett, we thoroughly understand our clients’ business and are skilled problem solvers.  We represent savvy clients across a wide array of industries.  Prominent among these are energy, maritime, chemical, construction, finance, banking, real estate, telecommunications and public utilities.  With offices strategically located in Louisiana and Texas, we continue to evolve to meet the demands of our clients across the Gulf Coast and beyond.

The firm’s energy expertise has taken it from Louisiana and Texas to the Gulf of Mexico to the North Slope of Alaska to the Bass Straits of Australia.  Government regulators for the energy industry in Louisiana have repeatedly looked to us for industry perspective in drafting and revising regulations and agreement forms.  Ever on the cutting edge, the firm has obtained “first-ever” relief in numerous contexts—from suspensions of production on the Outer Continental Shelf to summary judgment in take-or-pay litigation to tariff relief for existing pipeline services regulated by the Louisiana Public Service Commission, to cite just a few examples.  With energy at the forefront of our development, our firm has also expanded to service the ever-increasing demands of our clients in other areas such as commercial litigation, insurance coverage and defense, bankruptcy, tax, construction and real estate. Whether on land or at sea, in the courtroom or at the negotiating table, when we are fighting for you, we are in our element.

Our tried and true reputation of excellence is continuously recognized by our peers and demonstrated by outstanding ratings and rankings.  Time and again, our lawyers are recognized both locally and nationally by Chambers, Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers and Top Lawyers, to name a few. Internationally, we are a proud member of Primerus, a society of top-rated, independent, small to medium size law firms committed to excellence in integrity, excellent work product, reasonable fees, continuing legal education, civility and community service.  We encourage you to take a moment to browse our website to learn more about our attorneys and firm and how we can work together to achieve success.

Gordon, Arata, Montgomery, Barnett, McCollam, Duplantis & Eagan, LLC was created by the 2017 merger of two prominent, full-service Louisiana-based law firms.  Formed in 1895, Montgomery Barnett built a global reputation in admiralty and maritime, commercial litigation, insurance coverage and defense and real estate matters.  Gordon Arata was established in 1970 by Jack Gordon, Blake Arata and John McCollam representing clients in the energy and petrochemical industries, and soon added to the firm’s portfolio high stakes work on energy regulatory issues and bet-the-company litigation.

With offices in Louisiana and Texas, Gordon Arata Montgomery Barnett delivers comprehensive legal services seamlessly to protect and advance our clients’ business interests through creative and strategic approaches.  The firm’s culture—we do serious work, but don’t take ourselves too seriously—is a point of pride. It sets the firm apart.  It promotes better accessibility and responsiveness, and it sets the stage for what has been and always will be our most important product: our clients’ trust.

Gordon Arata Montgomery Barnett is dedicated to advancing and maintaining a diverse workplace and building an environment of inclusion that reflects the communities and clients that we serve.  Our firm believes that the diversity of our attorneys and staff provides a firm-wide perspective that results in the best available service to our clients.  Our diversity committee, one of our firm’s longest standing committees, strives to develop in-firm practices and policies that help us meet and exceed our goals for diversity and inclusion.  Our firm has an established record of female leadership, with members serving on both the management and compensation committees for decades.  We have evolved to develop increasing leadership opportunities for women in the firm, including service on the firm’s finance, marketing and diversity committees.

We are proud of our continuing support of and participation in numerous organizations and events that promote diversity and inclusion in the legal field and in the industries with which we work.  Several of our female attorneys have actively participated in leadership of the Women’s Energy Network.  Our firm strongly supports attorney participation in the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society.  For many years, we have sponsored the Anti-Defamation League and have been a proud sponsor of the Women, Diversity & Change Summit hosted in Houston.

Our firm is committed to our 1L diversity summer clerkship program that provides law students with first-hand exposure to the private practice of law.  During the four-week program, our clerks attend hearings, depositions, settlement meetings and discovery conferences and work on challenging legal assignments.  Our attorneys maintain their relationship with our summer clerks throughout their law school experience and beyond.

Our efforts to ensure diversity and inclusion are ever-evolving.  Our dedication to this endeavor has produced concrete results in increased creativity and communication and in developing legal strategies. Our firm is excited about our continued commitment to foster diversity and inclusion, and we look forward to implementing additional programs to further this goal.
