Paul advises clients on corporate and LLC affairs, including reorganizations, restructurings, and acquisitions, and on energy issues arising under Louisiana’s Mineral Code and the industry’s primary agreements including mineral leases and JOAs.  Paul frequently represents clients before state and federal regulatory bodies, including offshore clients before BSEE and BOEM and in appeals before the Department of the Interior’s Board of Land Appeals.

In disputes, Paul focuses on ADR, appeals, and civil litigation.  He founded the International Arbitration Association at Columbia Law School and edited the American Review of International Arbitration.  In practice he has represented clients in multiple commercial and AAA arbitrations as first and second chair.  For appeals and civil litigation, Paul practices frequently in the Federal Fifth Circuit and the Western District of Louisiana, as well as various Louisiana judicial district courts and appellate courts – including the Louisiana Supreme Court, where he has prevailed in 8 of his last 10 writ applications.

Paul was recently appointed to the Advisory Council of the LSU Mineral Law Institute.  He also is a long-time member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Energy Law, and an assistant examiner in Constitutional Law with the Louisiana Committee on Bar Admissions.  Paul has been recognized on numerous occasions for his legal accomplishments, including being named a Louisiana Super Lawyer for Energy and Natural Resources Law, in Best Lawyers in America for Energy Law, Natural Resources Law, and Oil and Gas Law, and Acadiana’s Top Lawyers for Appellate Practice and Oil & Gas Law.

Prior to practicing law, Paul worked abroad as a business strategy and management consultant in the Amsterdam office of the consulting firm, McKinsey & Company.  He continues to maintain a rich network of contacts in European business.  He also has experience abroad and up north, having lived and studied at various times in Europe, the Middle East, and among the Yankees of New York City and Massachusetts.

Today Paul lives in Lafayette with his children under the age of 12.
